Tom Jackson grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and attended the University of Akron, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Drawing and Painting in 1972. Tom’s current full-time work as an artist was preceded by a forty-year aviation career. He served twenty two years as a USAF pilot and eighteen years flying international freight, as a Boeing 747 Captain.
Tom lives and paints primarily in the Western Reserve region of Ohio. Subjects for his oil paintings vary considerably. Whether studying shadows cast on architecture, or the spontaneous moment of a gardener, his goal is to capture the simple beauty of life in middle America. Regardless of subject, Tom’s paintings are normally bathed in sunlight, accented with dramatic use of shadow and accomplished with clean, bold color. Although primarily an oil painter, Tom participates in weekly studio workshops, drawing the human figure.
In 2016, Tom had paintings juried into the Butler Institute of American Art, National Midyear Exhibition and the Erie Art Museum, Spring Show. Additionally, he was awarded First Place in the Akron Society of Artists Juried Member Exhibit. This is the second consecutive year his entry received the First Place award.
