About the Exhibition: Nature’s Breath
Nature’s Breath is the gentle morning breeze, the scent of ancient forests, the mist rising from valleys, the fragrance of blooming flowers, and the chill of a winter day- forever connecting all living things together in a timeless dance of life.
Ed’s work captures the moment and movement in the space between observer and things observed. Inspired by arboretums, greenhouses, conservancies, forests, gardens, and parks, each piece reflects the artist’s deep gratitude for the precious objects, wondrous places, and beautiful people encountered across a lifetime.
Rooted in the classic disciplines of still-life, landscape, and portraiture, Ed brings a lifelong command of draftsmanship and design to work that is both technically accomplished and quietly personal. His paintings and drawings channel a reverence for the natural world- rendered with the careful eye of an illustrator and the feeling of someone who has spent decades looking closely.
About the Artist
Edward Allen Macie (Ed)
Edward Allen Macie was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, where an early and enduring love of art took root. He studied under Wilda Sundberg at the Erie Art Center and Andrew Sanders at the Erie Art School before graduating from Erie Technical Memorial High School’s commercial art program under Roy Ahlgren.
Ed went on to earn his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, graduating on the Dean’s List and receiving recognition from the Society of Illustrators. He returned to Erie and established a career in the local arts community, working as a freelance illustrator with clients including the Erie Times News and the Erie Art Museum, and as a graphic artist at Silkscreen Specialties, PIP Printing, and Emerald Printing.
Today, Ed focuses his practice on painting and drawing, bringing the same refined eye that defined his illustration career to an ongoing exploration of still-life, landscape, and portraiture. His work is informed by a rich foundation in classical technique and a deep attentiveness to the natural world.
