Two artists rooted in a deep reverence for the natural world come together in Fluent In Nature, a compelling joint exhibition that celebrates the beauty, mystery, and quiet wonder found in our surroundings. Ceramic sculptor Denise Romecki and pastel painter Marcia Walmer approach nature from different perspectives and through different mediums, yet their work converges in a shared language of observation with close attention to texture, light, and conveyed meaning.
About the Exhibition: Fluent in Nature
Marcia Walmer’s pastel series was born of her strong attraction to water- its currents, falls, sounds, and hypnotic rhythms. Each pastel painting captures a single encounter with the nature of water at a moment in time, inviting viewers to slow down and notice the interplay of light, color, and form that might otherwise go unnoticed. A selection of pastel drawings of birds encountered along the water’s edge also graces the exhibition, bringing a touch of playful warmth to the show.
Denise Romecki’s hand-built stoneware sculptures draw inspiration from the naturally occurring forms she collects during walks along beaches and hiking trails- stones, seedpods, seashells, and driftwood that become the seeds of her work. Her pieces range from intuitively formed, fluid sculptures to narrative works that explore animals as spirit guides and symbolic messengers, reflecting her belief in the deep interconnectedness of all living things.
About the Artists
Marcia Walmer
Marcia Walmer is a Realist who works in soft pastel, charcoal, and graphite. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Edinboro University and is a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society (GLPS), with a recent piece juried into the 2024 GLPS National Online Show. Walmer works from her studio in Moon Township, PA and travels throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina in pursuit of inspiration. Her work is rooted in traditional drawing disciplines- accurate proportions, perspective, and value- elevated by the expressive possibilities of pastel color and mark.
