I was born and raised in Erie. Graduated from Tech Memorial in 1973. I had two great art teachers and mentors at Tech: Vitus Kaiser, and Roy Alhgren. Earned my BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design, (1977) in Columbus Ohio. Majoring in Graphic Design.

My career has mostly been designing commercial projects: advertising campaigns, logo and brand development, packaging, and sales promotion. Upon graduation I worked at advertising agencies and design firms. My favorite was when I was a designer at Hallmark Cards headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. While there I designed Hallmark's national in-store seasonal campaigns, including the Hallmark Hall of Fame series.

Since 1995, my business partner, Bill Lechner and I, have operated Lechner & Benson Advertising Design. Our work includes advertising, graphic design for print and web, creative concepts thru production, for consumer, retail, manufacturing, tourism, non-profit, and service

industries. Since 2017, Bill and I opened an art studio at the St. Mary's Place to Create, on East 10th street in Erie. I work in a variety of techniques, from drawing, watercolor, oil, acrylic, to collage, and print making. From abstract contemporary to traditional.
