Artist Bio:
“My first job in the city was as a graphic designer. When moving to rural Forest County, I thought my art would have to be on hold for a while. I worked at a lumber mill. Running the wood through the planer and seeing the beautiful results inspired me to start carving. After years of instruction, I became an instructor myself for elder hostel. This is how I gained the skill to create forms in three dimension. Wood carving is a slow, meticulous, precise process. I wanted to create larger work that would come together somewhat quickly.
“When I started to play with papier mache I found it was exactly what I was looking for. Art made of entirely of recycled materials. Newspapers, old phone books and often including a beak or horns that I have carved from basswood. This fits in perfectly with my assemblages which occasionally include papier mache and collected ephemera. The uniqueness of this art form is exciting and one that finds me looking forward to spending time in my studio.”
